First practice

For this design, I chose to do an early Victorian hairstyle we had practiced in Helen’s lesson. As I’ve said before in my previous blog posts, I will be recreating the Governess. The scene I have chosen to do is where she is going to a job interview in London, to work at a country home in Essex. During the Victorian era makeup was kept minimal; in fact women hardly applied anything at all. For this reason, I had to come up with a natural design, and keep it traditional. This is my first practice of the hair and makeup on my model, Lia:

Reflection:

As this isn't a contemporary assessment, I have to stick to a real visual appearance of the Governess. I cannot change or add anything that's irrelevant to my chosen character. I was impressed with the makeup as I usually like to go over the top, however I managed to keep it minimal and recreate my character as to exactly how she would look during the Victorian era.

One thing I wasn't happy about was the hair. I felt like I should change the hairstyle because it's too plain. As my makeup design is natural, I thought it'd be ideal for me to invest more time in the hair and create another early Victorian hairstyle. I also looked more into adornments of the era after having done my first practice session. I thought I could purchase a necklace and earrings that'd be appropriate to the era and incorporate them into my final design.
