In Hemlock Grove, Shelly is said to be Roman’s sister. She is described to be ‘monstrous-looking, yet highly intelligent and kind.’ During one of the scenes, ‘Chasseur is killed by Olivia, and Peter and Roman discover that the murderer is actually Christina, the girl who accused Peter of the murderers. Christina turned herself into a werewolf by drinking water from one of the tracks left by Peter while he was in wolf form. Unable to control her actions as a werewolf, Christina's mental state deteriorated and caused her to become insane. Due to her insanity she attacked anyone she saw as being sexually promiscuous due to her own confusion over her burgeoning sexuality. Peter and Christina fight to the death in their wolf forms. Peter miraculously survives, but Shelley, who threw herself into the fight to avenge Christina's last victim, is shot by the Sheriff because he sees her holding Christina's (now human again) body.’

Right at the end of this scene Shelly is said to have ran off, not to be seen again.
Backstory:
I want Claudia to be Shelly in Hemlock Grove. There are a few facts I discovered about Shelly’s character which I thought would link in with Claudia quite well, for example:
- Shelley is hideous to society, but she's like a child on the inside.
- She meets a young man who is letting her hide out in his basement. He's very crucial in helping her evolve throughout the seasons – I want this portray this ‘young man’ as Quentin.
- She has a therapist – portraying she has mental problems, therefore needs help in order to overcome them.
- She just wants to be a normal teenage girl
- A compelling character
- She’s on the run, being hunted
- Rejected by society – this is similar to Claudia’s situation; where she not accepted by her parents, therefore lacks love and affection.
- She is the beating heart of Hemlock Grove that is somehow uncorrupted by everything that's taking place around her.
- Shelly becomes the surrogate for especially young female viewers of the show.
Claudia is said to be a cheerful character in this ‘mad world of hers’. Again, Shelly is also said to be hideous to society, whereas in actual facts, she’s like a child on the inside.

I chose the word ‘save us’ as I believe both Shelly and Claudia need to be saved. Neither of them is to blame for their situation in life and are looking for a way out. They wish to be someone else, and live a normal life like other teenage girls however this isn’t possible for the neither of them, and they learn to accept this.
Makeup:
For my Claudia shoot, the scene I am re-creating is where she (Shelly) gets shot by the Sherriff. I want to create a bullet wound on a particular area of Claudia’s face (haven’t decided yet). I wish to shoot this outside, as I believe that is where the incident is most likely to have happened. I’ll need to practice bullet wounds, and look more into them. I also want to create a slight dirt effect on the face and body – to show the effect of how intense the fight was that she had thrown herself in.

Mrs. Laderman – Olivia:
‘Olivia resumes an affair with her late husband's brother, Dr. Norman Godfrey. At several points during the series Norman tries to break away from Olivia but ultimately fails due to his desire for her, despite him remembering several warnings from his brother about how Olivia emotionally preys on people.’
As I mentioned above, during one of the scenes, Chasseur is killed by Olivia. It is also revealed that ‘centuries ago Olivia was impregnated by a gypsy she tried to run away with as a young girl. The man abandoned her shortly after they escaped (taking her jewels with him), and she was found a few days later, bloody, from having cut off the tail she had (the origin of the scar on her lower back). She was brought home, and turned into an unnatural beauty over the course of her pregnancy. Now resentful of any gypsy, she gave up the child to grow up with a lowborn old swineherd named Rumancek, showing that the family is descended from Olivia.
She also muses that while she married JR Godfrey, she fell in love with his brother Norman, who actually fathered Roman. At Roman's 18th birthday, Olivia takes him to Shelley's attic where he discovers Letha's (not actually stillborn) baby. With Olivia's mind controlling powers, she makes her son remember that it was him who had sex with Letha (her mind having "made up" the "angel" to cope with this). Roman then slits his wrists to "not let his mother win" but this actually finishes his transformation; he grows fangs and it is insinuated that he drinks from Letha's and his baby.’

Backstory:
I want Mrs. Laderman to be Olivia in Hemlock Grove. Oliva is a mother therefore I’m assuming she is in her 40’s, similar to Mrs. Laderman. There are a few facts I discovered about Olivia’s character which I thought would link in with Mrs. Laderman quite well, for example:
- She is a ‘beautiful and feared woman
- A wealthy widow with a mysterious Romanian background who stands in control of the Godfrey family fortune.
- Highly manipulative person, demonstrating symptoms of clinical psychopathy, willing to do anything to forward her own agenda.
- She has exhibited clearly amoral and even malevolent tendencies, including killing several of her children immediately after their births, as well as forcing her then-seventeen-year-old son to rape his non-consenting cousin/half-sister.
- Studied dramatic arts
- She carries herself in the manner of someone who is seldom refused and never disobeyed.’
Olivia is said to be Shelly and Juliet’s mother. Throughout the second season of the series, she only wears black. ‘Due to Olivia's immortality only certain things can kill her. She also cannot be killed by the same ways a normal human can.’

In my version of the series, I want Mrs. Laderman to remain being the mother of Shelly (Claudia). Olivia, similar to Mrs. Laderman ‘changes into a variety of alter egos.’ She’s also said to be Claudia’s friend, which makes sense is this case as they’re now mother/daughter. Olivia is believed to have not aged ever since her young years. Her appearance means everything to her. She is very different to her daughter, Shelly. She’s done harm to a lot of her close ones, which is why I want to create a scene to show her burning. I want to show my audience that she is being punished – and that she will never be able to look the same.
Mrs. Laderman is suspected to have had evil plans on both Claudia and Quentin, similar to Olivia. In fact Olivia is such a disgraceful character in the series; she ‘mesmerised her own son, Roman to rape his cousin so that they would give birth to her granddaughter.’
In the last scene of the series, instead of Roman slitting his wrist to not let his mother win, I want him to throw acid on one side of her face. Roman hates his mother Olivia, and wishes for her to die however as I’ve mentioned above, Olivia cannot be killed the same way normal humans do, therefore the only way Roman can get back at his mother for all she’s done throughout her years, is to take her beauty away from her.

I chose the word ‘face’ as I want the main focus of my shoot to be on my model’s face. I also chose this word as I believe it best describes Mrs. Laderman and Olivia’s two-faced personality. They both seem to hide their inner selves and true colours.
Makeup:
For my Mrs. Laderman shoot, I’m obviously creating third-degree burns due to the acid attack. We’ve already practiced burns in Sue’s technical lesson therefore I have a rough idea of how I will be doing it. Instead of gelatine nuggets however I will be using powder. I will need to practice this in my own time in order to be prepared for my shoot. I will also be using my mum as my model, as it’s quite difficult to find middle-aged women that are willing to model for me.
